    What is Oeko-Tex?

Oeko-Tex is a registered trademark granted by the International Association for Textile and Leather Research and Testing.

The association, after testing, issues the corresponding certificate, which is placed by manufacturers on the product label.

This certificate awarded to products is confirmation that they meet safety standards for humans and the environment. Products certified with this mark confirm the purity of textile and leather products at all stages of production. This ranges from raw materials such as fibers, yarns, buttons, threads and fabrics to testing of finished products for use. Some certifications also confirm the impact on social and environmental conditions at production facilities.

List of certificates currently in effect:

    • Oeko-Tex Standard
    • Made in Green (officially Oeko-Tex Standard 100 plus)
    • Leather Standard (for leather products)
    • Eco Passport (concerning chemicals used in textile production)
    • STeP (formerly Oeko-Tex Standard 1000).
    • Detox TO Zero - zero status report for manufacturing facilities

At present, more than 9,500 companies from 80 countries around the world have products tested using the latest laboratory techniques. Certified according to strict testing standards.

OEKO-TEX certification is the best-known and most common label for textiles tested for harmful substances. These tests cover nearly 300 substances.

Color retention is also evaluated. If a consumer has doubts, it is very easy to check the validity of textile certification by pointing to its number on the association's website.

Above all, certification is synonymous with transparency and the textile industry's commitment to caring for our health and the environment. All products that are certified by the association are safe. When you buy and use them, you can be sure that they have been thoroughly tested, and are therefore free from all kinds of harmful agents.

What products can be made from Oeko-Tex-certified cotton?

In order for a product to receive Oeko-Tex certification, manufacturers must submit samples of all components (including accessories such as buttons, zippers, studs, sewing thread, labels or prints) for analysis by a laboratory of one of the association's members.

Also, products of the advertising industry: cotton bags, cotton garments, recycled bags, and the like, must undergo a certification process in order to be considered green products.

The certificate is issued after materials have been successfully tested for compliance with standards and a declaration of conformity has been signed. Part of the certification process also includes a company audit at the production site. It is conducted shortly before or after the certificate is issued. After that, audits take place at least once every three years.

To verify continued compliance with the required limits, the Oeko-Tex association conducts annual inspections of at least 25% of all Standard 100 and Leather Standad certifications issued. These inspections include unannounced company visits and laboratory tests of labeled product samples obtained from stores and manufacturing plants.

Also, for other certifications such as STeP, Oeko-Tex conducts unannounced on-site inspections of production facilities to ensure continued compliance with certification requirements.

    Advantages of certified cotton products

Cotton is the most popular fiber that reigns supreme in textile production. The distinctive white balls surrounding the seeds of this plant resemble cotton wool, which is soft to the touch.

Cotton is a 100 percent natural material. Due to its practicality, it can be used for clothing, everyday items, also serving as advertising materials. Cotton bags, t-shirts, caps, recycled bags. Lots of types of eco-friendly products, convenient and practical advertising gadgets.

By combining the advantages of natural cotton with the stringent requirements necessary for certification, we get a safe and environmentally positive material whose advantages can include:

    • Durability: it can be washed and ironed frequently,
    • Tensile resistance: we don't have to worry about its deformation,
    • Hygroscopicity: cotton absorbs water vapor,
    • No allergenic properties: ideal for allergy sufferers (usually dyes added to cotton materials are allergenic),
    • Heat retention: the thick material retains body heat,
    • Nice to the touch: for this reason, it is often used in the production of children's clothes.
